Shooter and equipment - glitches at 50 meter rifle tournament

November 13th, 2010, Jamor, Oeiras, Portugal - the third match within the "Standard Rifle" tournament of the Portuguese Shooting Federation for .22 LR 50 meter rifle (60 shots, standing position)... my performance was a total fail  - I reached a mediocre 471 / 600 score when on the previous match I reached 512 / 600. This is was 41 points drop. What a wash-down.

First of all I was on the aftershocks of work related stress from the week before - my concentration was deeply affected. Second... around the 15th "sight in" shot... my loved vintage Austrian made J. G. ANSCHÜTZ (JGA) 1400 rifle's magazine started to jam feed all my rounds (a up stepper angle was forcing the round too high from the chamber) - I had to skip to a manual one-by-one load (more paraffin on my fingers from the bullet coating, more stress). Third... sights (and/or my handling) were giving me a lot of leftish shots, and I was unwilling / unsure about messing with them. Fourth... nevermind, it was all down hill.

... placed 31st out of 41
with a mediocre 471 / 600 score

I competed at line #29, match started at 12h00. A total of 41 shooters competed on this 3rd and last match of the tournament - the final score of the tournament was made using the 2 best out of the 3 match scores.

On 14th November 2010, along with fellow CPTPP shooters M. Miranda and F. Lopes Note, I scored 521 / 600 indvidually (the same score I reached on the Regionals) and a overall team score that reached us the 3rd place, bronze medal, on the 2010 ISSF Air Pistol Nationals (HS2 Class) held at Jamor, Oeiras, Portugal.

Good score at ISSF Air Pistol 10 meter - Sporting Tournament

Just scored 520 / 600 at the 10 meter ISSF air pistol match of the SCP (Sporting Club de Portugal) - part of the official board of matches for the Portuguese Shooting Federation ranking. Competing on lane # 8 with my trusty Morini 162 EI, using H&N Finale Match pellets, and after a bellow average first 10 shots series (81 / 100) I got the "grip" and went up to > 85 / 100 scores and even score a fine 91 / 100 third series. Next weekend... the Nationals.

Match was held today's morning, November, 6th, 2010, at the 10 lanes, 10 meter shooting range of the "SCP Multidesportivo" in Alvalade, Lisbon, Portugal. A 90+ photo gallery of the event can be found at: http://www.cptpp.com/gallery/index-20101106-torneio-pac-scp.html .

Check and re-check the HW35 sights - all OK !

Last weekend's (poor) performance with my HW35 was demanding my urgent come back to the shooting range. A set of 50 shoots to re-sight and test stance and all related shooting position and technice... "topped" by a  3 x 10 shoot series "match conditions" were enough to show that in fact I needed a sight "touch in" - 5 clicks to push my groups from the right back to the centre of the target. The 3rd and final series on today's training with a score of 91 / 100 were the proof I needed that all is ok with the rifle and the shooting stance. Just a minor sights adjustments and all is normal again.

Low Score on Break Barrel Air Rifle Regionals

Last Saturday, October 30th, I competed on the Portuguese Shooting Federation Regionals for break barrel air rifle with a poor result of only 311 / 400 points reaching 25th place out of 300 shooters. Match was held at Jamor, Oeiras.

... scored 311 / 400

...and reached 25th / 33 place

Just like this blog's title, i.e., Broken Sights, it all started wrong, between shooter and sights, on the first shoots of the "sight in series", with a rightish set of 6s and 7s - tight but off center. Even with 20 extra shots on the sight in targets I was not able to feel confidant about what was effectively wrong - either my shooting / stock stance (a neck pain was causing some trouble, the proximity, at line # 5, of a pilar distracting my stance) or something with the light or with the sights. I end up starting the 1st 10 shoot series doing something I always keep reminding me and other fellow shooters not to do - mess with sight adjustment when not sure about the real issue. The result as a score 69 / 100 - shame. I end up reseting the setting for the original default position (should never touched them on the first place) and got "back" to the 80s results (81, 79 and 82 on the other 3 match series).
